Towards the end of last year, I discovered Goodreads thanks to a bunch of fellow bloggers I follow on Twitter. I really liked the concept of this website and so I decided to download and join for myself. I’ve already noticed the benefits so I thought I would share 4 reasons why Goodreads has worked well for me.
For those you who don’t know, Goodreads is an American social cataloging website. On this website, you can search for books, get recommendations, follow other people and see what they’re reading, write reviews and more. I really recommend it for those who want to make sure they’re reading as much as possible. Let’s get into the reasons as to why Goodreads works so well for me!
1) It Motivates Me to Read
One reason why I love Goodreads so much is the motivation it gives me to read. The way it does this for me specifically is their reading challenge. Their reading challenge is customisable and all it is is just a challenge to see if you can read so many books a year. It shows you whether you’re on schedule which is the part I find really beneficial. Currently I’m 4 books behind schedule so I know I need to get a move on in order for me to complete my reading challenge.
2) It Shows the Progress I have Made
This reasoning is what drew me to Goodreads in the first place. You’re able to document the book that you’re reading which I like in itself. However, it also shows how you’re getting on with reading it. For example, you can say that you’ve read up to page 50 and it will then show you how much of the book you’ve read in a percentage. I really like that for me.
3) It Allows Me To Discover New Books
When you first sign up for Goodreads, you can fill out some details about the genre of books that you like such as thriller, fantasy, non-fiction etc. On your main feed, you will then see different recommendations based on the genres you like. I’ve added so many books to my want to read list through the recommendations Goodreads has given me.
4) It Allows Me to See What Other People Like
On Goodreads, you can follow and be friends with other users so you can see what they’re reading, what they’ve added to their reading list and reviews they’ve given to books they’ve already read. It’s a great way to see what your friends are into, as well as people who have similar tastes to you.
I’m sorry that this blog post is short but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless! Do you use Goodreads? Let me know in the comments and thank you foe reading!
