5 of my Favourite Musicals

Hi friends! As you all know, I love a good musical regardless of whether I’ve binge listened to a soundtrack or I’ve actually been to see the show. Today, I thought I would share with you 5 of my favourite musicals. It was really hard to narrow this down to 5 but I’ve managed to do it. These are in no particular order. They’re just 5 musicals that I love dearly! Let’s get to it!

Come From Away

For my full thoughts of Come From Away, please see my review!

Come From Away is set in the week following the 9/11 attacks. It tells the true story of what happened when 38 planes were ordered to land at the airport next to the small town of Gander in New foundland in Canada. The characters in the musical are based on Gander residents as well as some of the 7,000 stranded travellers they housed and fed.

I absolutely adore this musical. I’ve been to see it twice now and I have just utterly fallen in love with it. My favourite songs from the soundtrack are ‘Prayer’ which is moving and haunting, ‘Me and The Sky’ which Rachel Tucker absolutely delivers with such sincerity and ‘Finale’ which is the end song just before the curtain bows. It’s an amazing song to end this musical and I highly recommend that you see it if you can!

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

For my full thoughts of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, please see my review!

Everybody’s Talking about Jamie is about a gay teenager who finds a path to self-acceptance and self-realisation through his love of drag, and charts how his brave determination to go to his high school prom in a dress is realised.

I saw this musical back in September 2018 and I absolutely loved it. It’s a show I can really relate to as a LGBT+ person. I highly recommend it! My favourite song is ‘It means beautiful’ which is such a quaint song and utterly stunning. I need to see this show again.

Six is a retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII in modern times presented as a pop concert. The wives take turns singing and telling their story to see who had the worst time with Henry and will become the group’s lead singer. I haven’t been to see it yet but I’m hoping it will happen soon!

My favourite song from the soundtrack is ‘Heart of Stone’. It’s a really beautiful song and I got chills when I first listened to it!

I went to see Hamilton back in April 2018 and it was absolutely incredible. I cried so throughout the show. It was breath-taking.

Hamilton is a sung-through musical featuring hip-hop, R&B, pop, soul and traditional show tunes. It tells us about the life of Alexander Hamilton, a founding father.

My favourite songs from Hamilton are ‘History Has its Eyes on You’, ‘The Room Where it Happens’, and ‘Wait For It.’ All of the songs are absolutely incredible though and I definitely need to see this again!

Les Miserables

It would be rude not to include Les Mis in this blog post. I love this musical so much and the soundtrack always gives me chills whenever I listen to it.

Set in early 19th-century France, Les Misérables is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his desire for redemption after serving 19 years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister’s starving child. Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life afresh but he is continuously tracked down by a police inspector named Javert. Along the way, Valjean and other characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists attempt to overthrow the government at a street barricade.

I honestly can not decide what my favourite song is from the soundtrack. All of them give me goosebumps no matter how many times I listen to it.

And there you have it. These are 5 of my favourite musicals. I love all of them so much and highly recommend them!

Love Beth

  1. Six is amazing!!! I was lucky enough to see the tour last Christmas and I have been obsessed with the soundtrack ever since! I’d have to add Phantom of the Opera and Wicked to the list, they are some of my favourites! x

  2. Well- we share one of the same top five favorite musicals.

Les Mis is actually one of my top two- loved it since giving the film a 2nd chance. After that, the rest is history. I can’t choose my favorite song either (usually, I can narrow down to one). 2019- saw the stage show a 6th time. While Wicked may have sparked my love for musicals, Les Mis turned that love into more of a passion
